Harmony Festival Presents:
The Techno-Tribal 11th - Year Itch!

This coming June 11th and 12th the Harmony Festival Showcases the 11-Year Anniversary of the Techno-Tribal Community Dance, one of the Bay Area’s largest and most celebrated annual events showcasing leading edge DJs of electronic dance music, technologically cutting-edge VJs and their visual wizardry, breathtaking aerial and circus arts and stunning fire performers and dance troupes.

Starting off in 1999 as the one-night afterparty of the Harmony Festival, Techno Tribal Community Dance was produced by an already seasoned collective of North Bay DJs and dance enthusiasts who later went on to form The Mystic Beat Lounge, the same collective currently producing the event today.

From the get-go through today there has been an unbridled passion for assembling an all-star cast of performers, from all walks of the performing world, who would eagerly gather to support a multi-media spectacle that lay at the intersection of dance music and the arts.

This coming June 11th and 12th at Harmony Festival, where the Mystic Beat Lounge holds court in the massive Grace Pavilion, festival-goers are in store for another epically creative experience that represents the sum total and culmination of all previous years’ creative endeavors!

On those dates the two nights of festivities showcase both several new acts and performers, along with the return of those acts whose past participation have utterly “wowed”, thrilled and moved past Techno-Tribal audiences.

The first evening, Friday, June 11th, in Harmony Hall marks the inception of the next big wave of sound from the underground dance scene: Dubstep and Glitch. A massive upswell of bass rolls off the Wobble Factory sound system where a front line of subwoofers delivers a salvo unleashed by the creative forces of  four up-and-coming producers whose muse is rewiring and redefining the underground: Ana Sia, Mimosa, Ill Gates and Marty Party. Opening support comes from local beatsmiths Dr. Dylan and iNi.   The venue (Harmony Hall)  may be compact but with all the Mystic Beat Lounge production elements you have come to expect, the vibe will be huge.

Tipper

At the caldron’s edge is the wizard of sound known as Tipper. While his stage presence is elusively unmoved by his own magic, his focus is the alchemical fusing of sounds and sonic frequencies that produce maddeningly good compositions: From Vesuvian and squidgy basslines to a taughtly bound swirl of sinewy hip hopped rhythms, from breakbeaten funk to downtempo derivatives,  his music tells stories spoken by aliens and danced by gods.

Galactic

Then headlining the stage Saturday night and performing for the very first time in the North Bay is Galactic. Touring their latest release, Ya-Ka-May the five-man group comprised of drummer Stanton Moore, bassist Robert Mercurio, saxophonist/harmonica player Ben Ellman, keyboardist Richard Vogel, and guitarist Jeff Raines – reaffirm their status as the quintessential modern day New Orleans band and one of the funkiest outfits in the known universe. Ya-Ka-May  is visionary mix, intertwining New Orleans sounds from jazz to brass band to funk and far beyond.

Beats Antique

Founded in Oakland, Beats Antique is a product of the bellydance diaspora where it meets the underground dance scene. From this talented threesome comes a seductively new form of the art that merges both live musicianship and world roots music with cutting edge visual performances by one of American Tribal Style Bellydance’s most renowned dancers. Their sonic pioneering of nu groove programming merges modern technology with seductive performance and combines the sounds of the Middle East and orchestral gypsy music with the styles of hip-hop, brass band, downtempo, glitch and dubstep.

Ott

The Techno-Tribal journey comes to is end - its grand exhale and finale-fantastique -   with Ott.  Blending genres and soundscapes Ott is the man who can never be pigeon-holed and whose music you can never stop you from dancing. From sky soaring dreamscapes to earthbound bangers his original dance music is an electric arc of sound that moves seamlessly through ideas, concepts and productions. Referencing the global palette and rendered in to translucent studio masterpieces the live effect is an uplifting experience that will send you home with a cosmic wink towards Harmony 2011!

Lynx & Janover

Merging the hammered dulcimer's spirit of Americana with acoustic guitar and West Coast bass culture - where they both meet hip hop's ethos - you have a dreamy,  slowed-down, crunked-up version of Foggy Mountain Breakdown with the scorch of female vocals, beatboxing and whumpy programming!

An on-the-edge-of your-seat visual feast includes all-night long swoosh and swirl of dazzling stage performances of fire, acrobatics and antics by Troupe Luminesque, Mutaytor Aerialists: Roo & Suze Q, Liquid Fire Mantra, Phoenix Rising & Satya Bellydance!
