Abai is a talented, classically trained instrumentalist and hip hop vocalist, originally from Hayward, CA and DC/Baltimore area. At age five, Abai started piano, drums at twelve and by 1997 he had started his first experimentation with sampling and beat making. It’s been a long time coming for Abai, and he’s ready to share his musical vision with the world.

Heavily influenced by Sound System parties since 1994, Abai traveled and performed the U.S. many times over, giving like a gypsy to the scene and dance. In 2002, Abai’s influences of house, drum and bass, reggae and hip hop merged to form some of the earliest incarnations of the dubstep and hyphy movements known as Womp. Living in an Oakland warehouse, Abai was immersed in the thick, vibrant culture of the Bay, the birthplace of so many artists and revolutionary milestones for music and it’s subcultures. It was this time Fearless was born and the project began to culminate rapidly, into it’s well formed 21-track concept. Since finishing Fearless, Abai has not delayed his prolific output of dubstep and hip-hop. His most recent release was on 12″ for Myka 9’s project Magic Heart Genies and has been recognized as a dance floor favorite, titled Multicultures.

Abai’s live performance is a fusion of live vocals, DJing and instrumentation with an energy that is simply uncanny. Pulling from the non-stop music styles of the DJ and combining talented live drums and keyboards with conscious vocal styling, Abai is destined to win crowds’ hearts and inspire on the dance floor.
